IS IT KARMA IN NEGATIVE SENSE: GYAASEHENE OF NSAWKAW?

Nsawkaw in the Tain Area has had several precedences of chieftaincy matters. In 1979, the matters were all resolved and were documented that never again will such crisis be meted upon the people. Among the signatories was Peter Kwasi Jimpetey. As per the records of the recent history of Nsawkaw, a documented resolution was made on the 14^th of October 1979, when Jimpetey (now Gyaasehene) was the Chairman of the Planning Committee of Nsawkaw Youth Association. He was an educationist who at that time stood on behalf of the youth of Nsawkaw but now one of the key Architect of the shameful and illegal act.

Together with others, Jimpetey (now Gyaasehene) was a signatory to this joint resolution passed to withdraw the support of the Youth of Nsawkaw from two claimants to the Nsawkaw stool. Jimpetey (now Gyaasehene) and others’ main reason for the “destoolment” of the two claimants was that none of them was nominated, elected and installed by a queen-mother. In the end, Jimpetey and the other Youth Leaders called for a legitimate Queen-mother who then had to come from the Adwo family. Hence, on December 15, 1979, a new Queen-mother Nana Abena Pokua Ankamu I from the Adwo Family was installed. That Queen-mother who is late now – happens to be the biological mother of the proposed Queen-mother now – Nana Pokuah Ankamu Boatemaa II.

It is instructive to note that Jimpetey as one of the Youth leaders and all the Sub-divisional Chiefs then, agreed as per Akan-Nsawkaw’s custom that the late queen-mother be installed first; before she legitimately nominated and elected Nana Twum Barimah Ameyaw II, who was also subsequently installed in 1982. He was from the Dakrom-Asianaa family. Though the Late Queen-mother initiated the process of installation, she did that in consultation with the rest of the Royals Led by the then Abakomahene, Nana Asianaa, who is also late now.

Is it not ironical that Jimpetey (now Gyaasehene), the same person, is currently one of the main protagonist of the shameful installation of the present illegitimate Chief in the absence of a queen-mother?

I don’t believe in Karma but if such exists, I think one of such has been plagued on Gyaasehene of Nsawkaw. “Our actions and inactions determine our destiny” they say. There is a video of Gyaasehene that I watched. In the video (will be shared upon request and in due time), people who have been promised the Paramount Chieftaincy position were demanding for their money and almost at the verge of beating Gyaasehene at the Brong Ahafo House of Chiefs premises. That suggests to me that in playing into this “Karma”, money was at the root. No wonder it is known to be the root of all evil when love is in the equation.
