The community is back” as I heard the yell. Which community, I asked myself? But in recounting the episodes of demolitions that have been carried out over the years by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly over the squatters by the Odoona drainage and the railways at Circle in Accra, Ghana, I knew they were the people spoken about.

It is turning to be a stronger community than what initially existed. The authorities are looking on for another cholera outbreak and a disaster which might claim more lives. Why is it so difficult for those at the helm of affairs to get rid of the squatters for good? Is it because of institutional failure or lack of political will to do the right thing?

While I passed there, I saw someone doing an electrical extension and wiring of the place on his own. He passed the cables through a shallow scratch on the face of the soil to hide them. I was just thinking if what could happen if it rains and any of those cables get exposed or torn.

Where are the amenities for these people in the heart of the capital city of Ghana? Toilets, refuse dumping places, schools, and many others need to be adequately provided if we all agree as a nation to settle the Oddona “residents”.

We take things for granted and if we continue this way, our progress as a nation will delay. Let the institutions work without fear or favour.

  1. A powerful share, I just given this onto a colleague who was doing a bit of analysis on this. And he in reality purchased me breakfast because I discovered it for him.. smile. So let me reword that: Thnx for the deal with! However yeah Thnkx for spending the time to debate this, I feel strongly about it and love reading extra on this topic. If doable, as you turn out to be experience, would you mind updating your blog with extra particulars? It is extremely helpful for me. Massive thumb up for this weblog post!
