The Greater Accra Regional Co- Ordinating Council, at a Regional Security Council (REGSEC), meet held on December 24, 2021, has issued a series of directives to help reduce the spread of the new variant of the Coronavirus “Omicron”.
A statement signed by the Greater Regional Minister, Henry Quartey is asking the public to strictly adhere to all the COVID protocols, managers of the beaches in Accra are to be closed to the public, compulsory wearing of nose mask in public transportation and public places.
All this directives are to take effect from December 25, 2021.
The statement is also asking that all constructions taking place at Ramsar sites, close to Wetlands and Mangroves be halted immediately. Failure to do so will lead to arrest by the police.
With regard to road safety; the statement is asking for all motorist to observe road safety protocols. Motor riders are to wear helmets and not carry more than two passengers.
Also, with effect from December 24, 2021 to January 31, 2022, all motor riders whose motor bikes have been ceased by the police are to provide documentation and reasons for release or they will be confiscated by the police after a court order is secured.
Persons who fail to adhere to the directives will be arrest and prosecuted the directive noted.
