The Finance Minister Ken Ofori, has received a formal order from President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to start engaging with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), for a bailout.
This move is to get the fund to help in the country’s economic recovery.
In a release posted on the Facebook page of the Ministry of Information, which was signed by the sector Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah; reads, “President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Add directs Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta to engage IMF to support Ghana’s economic recovery program”.
According to the statement in, “… a telephone conversation, between the President and the IMF Managing Director Miss Kristalina Georgieva”, Nana Addo conveyed, “Ghana’s decision to engage with the fund”.
The last program with the IMF ended in 2018.
This will be the second time in 7 years the nation has asked the IMF for policy credibility support.
The economy which keeps failing, has been blamed on the Ukraine and Russia war; as well as the Covid-19 pandemic, by the Nana Addo led government.
