Do basic checks and be sure the news has some truth.
Do not share out of emotions.
Why share something which is not true but can make you liable to be prosecuted?
Help curb the spread of fake news. It is business for the originators and you should not be a peddler to enrich them.
Things to do to check.
1. Check if it has been reported elsewhere. No major news will escape the many websites and in fact the authentic ones that are hungry to break news. So it will be strange no one is reporting what you want to share.
2. Read a couple of headlines in relation to the story you intend to share. If nothing suggestive of truth, I will avoid sharing.
3. The most important is to share to individuals than to a group especially when you cannot authenticate the truth but you still feel the urge to share.

2. You share what you believe in, most cases
3. You can therefore be liable and be prosecuted when you share fake news or share something which is not true but made someone act on it. Negligence may hold you up. You owe people duty of care.
