The scientists that were honoured included key people who have largely contributed to research and the fight against malaria globally.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\">Such recognition of the hard work\u00a0of researchers is much needed to encourage young ones they mentor to be motivated and to assure sustainability of their work while away. It was gratifying when two great sons of Ghana, Professor Fred Newton Binka and Professor Kwadwo A. Koram were honoured on such a global platform which saw a conglomerate of malaria scientists, researchers, funders, NGOs and advocates. For me, these two icons have lifted the image of the country.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\">Briefly,\u00a0Professor Fred Newton Binka, a previous winner of Sir Ronald Ross award for malaria is also the former premier Vice Chancellor of University of Health and Allied Sciences. Koram, is the immediate\u00a0past Director of Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR), University of Ghana. As to whether their works have been used by policymakers\u00a0to influence decisions is another matter for another write-up.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\">I would want to add my voice in congratulating them for standing tall and showing the flag of Ghana high in health research and fight against malaria, the dreadful killer.
