It is also a fact that about 70% of medical decisions are based on laboratory investigations and processes. In Ghana one need a license from the Allied Health Professions Council (AHPC) based on ACT 857, PART 1 before you are considered qualified to perform.<\/p>\n
The Health Professionals Body Regulatory ACT 857 provides regulations for Medical Doctors (MDC, ACT 857 PART 2), Nurses and Midwifes (NMWC, ACT 857 PART 3), PHARMACISTS (Pharmacy Council, ACT 857 PART 4) and Psychologists (ACT 857 PART 5).<\/p>\n
It is my believe that the framers of the law in their right thinking knew how absurd it will be if someone from any of these regulators want to cross carpet without the right qualification. The anarchy it will create if one does not go through the required processes to get the qualification of any of the various council and decides to superintend over the professionals in a particular PART of the said ACT.<\/p>\n
Basically, how can a doctor who does not have the qualifications to merit the license of a nurse or a midwife become the HEAD or DIRECTOR of nursing services? Likewise for Pharmacy and all others that could be seen clearly in the law.<\/p>\n
If not for such greed and the attitude for having it all to themselves, why would the Ghana College for Physicians and Surgeons (GCPS) demand that medical doctors alone are the people can and must HEAD laboratory services in Ghana. If that will not happen, then the good structures in the National Health Laboratory Policy cannot benefit Ghanaians.<\/p>\n
Anytime I say this, people think that I am exaggerating. Attached to this writeup is a snapshot of the review to the policy document that the GCPS submitted to be effected before they launch and implement. Because of the conditions that were attached and “for lack of balls”, no one has been able to launch and implement since 2013.<\/p>\n
If this is not greed, what again could it be? Who is suffering? The poor Ghanaian.<\/p>\n
Saying that a professional can only be the director of laboratory if only he\/she is registered with the Ghana medical and Dental Council is a total exclusion of laboratory professionals who might even be professors. Such cheating cannot be allowed and that’s why we are where we are.<\/p>\n
If the truth is not spoken to the greed of the GCPS and the medical doctors backed by their bodies, the health system of Ghana will never progress to the international levels we all desire.<\/p>\n
