The current government seems to have taken some credit for the great battle that was embarked to get rid of illegal small scale miners who were polluting our water bodies with their activities.<\/p>\n

It was great by all standards. The greed with which these illegal and even some legal miners used to look for minerals without regard to the health of the populace was mind-boggling.<\/p>\n

It appears the government is losing the battle to curb the illegal activities and the operators are back “home and dry”.<\/p>\n

I recently went to the then Western Region and the colour of River PRA at Beposo was very suggestive of something happening upstream. The illegal miners are back.<\/p>\n

The water which I had earlier seen and attested was clean and even lauded the government is brown in appearance. Very suggestive of something disturbing the natural beauty of the river.<\/p>\n

From a video I took, one of the inhabitants alluded that the people back to the illegal activities are the party members of the current government. I hope that is not true but the energy with which the illegal activities were earlier fought will not wane and be dependent on who is embarking on the destruction of our river bodies and natural habitat.<\/p>\n

I wish the respective authorities will continue fighting and not compromise on what they started. It is clear that the greed of these illegal miners will not allow them to put on their thinking cap, hence we have to do it for them.<\/p>\n

We need to keep the water bodies for generations yet to come. It is a shame, to say the least, to allow these illegal miners to operate.<\/p>\n
