On 21st June 2019, the good news with respect to electricity in Ghana was given by the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC).\u00a0The PURC “approved an 11.17%\u00a0tariff increase<\/b>\u00a0for recovery of total\u00a0electricity<\/b>\u00a0revenue requirement for the regulated\u00a0electricity<\/b>\u00a0market, effective July 01, 2019″.<\/p>\n

From my layman’s point of view, I keep wondering what that means. Is it the case that when I previously used 100 unit of energy, I should expect a shortage of 11.17% after the increment? Or are there some specific parameters that get affected by the increment?<\/p>\n

Presented below are some parameters and the corresponding numbers before and after the tariff increment that was effected on 1st July 2019. For the same amount of energy bought in the two periods, the value of 11.17% does not reflect. It could be that, I have a deficit in my mathematical prowess.<\/p>\n

I leave it for readers to judge and help me over my challenges to appreciate what goes into the calculations.<\/p>\n
