I am a regular traveler with Kintampo usually as my place of embarkation or disembarkation. Kintampo is becoming known with news of horrific accidents that usually claim lots of lives of people.\u00a0 This reminds me of a story with a professional I met at a restaurant and how she retorted after hearing that I was coming from Kintampo, the area with roads known to be accident-prone.\u00a0 It was just at an introduction and all her perceptions about the town were made bare. I suspect that she will never know of anything good that could come from the town.<\/p>\n

The lady is right to some extent. For some time now, Kintampo is usually in the news for accidents of high magnitude. The Metro Mass Transit incident that claimed over 70 lives in 2016<\/a>, t<\/span>alk of the <\/span>Waterfalls disaster in 2017<\/a>, horrific accident of two Yutong buses that crashed into flames claiming over 60 lives in 2019<\/a><\/span>\u00a0 and just on the dawn of 09th March 2020, another accident involving a collision of <\/span>MetroMass and a Sprinter Minibus leading to the death of passengers and burning beyond recognition<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Anytime this happened and looking at the number of dead bodies that families may not even know to identify and claim for burial, authorities resort to mass burial as they are always heard in their proposals<\/a>. My worry has been the available policies and legal framework for mass burial.<\/p>\n

Earlier to the time they report the recent accident happened, I had on two occasions had drive on the side of that same highway because buses that were over-speeding had to come into my lane. Anyone could be such a victim of the accident. My worry is how families would identify bodies of family members and claim for burial?<\/p>\n

Will the mass burial make provision to store some of the DNA or other biological samples from the accident victims to be used for identification in the future with family members that may want closure on the whereabouts of their loved ones?<\/p>\n

It is my wish that if such a policy exists, it should make provision for sample storage so that a child whose parent might be involved in such accidents, may get some relief of closure.<\/p>\n

Let’s be proactive for the future.<\/p>\n
