Cote D’Ivoire is in the news again with protest over the decision of President Alassane Ouattara to run for a third term. I wish there is a way out to prevent this from escalating into another civil unrest where innocent people will die as reports indicate.<\/p>\n

In 2007, I had the privilege to travel to Senegal through Cote D’Ivoire. I was fortunate to have experienced economy and business class tickets on the same trip. I loved the experience I had at the F\u00e9lix-Houphou\u00ebt<\/em>–Boigny<\/em>\u00a0International\u00a0Airport<\/em> both on embarkation and disembarkation. While praising what I saw, I was told that I should have seen the airport prior to the conflict in 2002 which ended three years before my visit.<\/p>\n

Ten years later, I had the opportunity to travel on that same route in 2018 for a Scientific Meeting. Things had improved far better than I saw and admired even though the airport had obviously suffered from the lack of maintenance culture that plagues our region.<\/p>\n

Seeing the various pictures and reading the headlines about the protests which have started in that same country breaks my heart. If not curbed and the fire quenched, something more disastrous might occur compared to the previous year.<\/p>\n

The leaders of the African Union (AU) should quickly abjudicate to bring the needed sanity. The world must not exclaim Cote D’Ivoire Again!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
