{"id":2061,"date":"2020-09-10T20:06:31","date_gmt":"2020-09-10T20:06:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/adugyasidennis.com\/?p=2061"},"modified":"2020-09-10T20:09:30","modified_gmt":"2020-09-10T20:09:30","slug":"gamls-applauds-the-national-democratic-congress-ndc-party-on-manifesto-promise-to-set-up-a-medical-laboratory-science-council","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/adugyasidennis.com\/index.php\/2020\/09\/10\/gamls-applauds-the-national-democratic-congress-ndc-party-on-manifesto-promise-to-set-up-a-medical-laboratory-science-council\/","title":{"rendered":"GAMLS APPLAUDS THE NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS (NDC) PARTY ON MANIFESTO PROMISE TO SET UP A MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENCE COUNCIL"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Medical Laboratory Scientists across Ghana welcomed the news by the biggest opposition party planning to create a Medical Laboratory Science Council (MLSC) should they win the next elections in Ghana.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the chronicles of the professional body, a former General Secretary of the body, captured, &#8220;as the years rolled by and the numbers of laboratory professionals increased in and around 1968, it became necessary to form an association with a Code of Conduct for its members and a board to control and regulate the practice of the Profession in Ghana.\u00a0On 28<sup>th<\/sup> May 1971, the Secretary of the Association of Ghana Medical Laboratory Technologists, Mr. E.K. Addo, was mandated to write a memorandum to the Ministry of Health requesting among other things;<\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>The establishment of a medical laboratory board to control and regulate the practice of medical laboratory technology in Ghana.<\/li>\n<li>School for the training of medical laboratory technologists and<\/li>\n<li>Review the salaries of technologists to befit their status as professionals.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On 25<sup>th<\/sup> July 1973 the Association of Ghana Medical Laboratory Technologists (AGMLT) was registered in accordance with the Professional Bodies Registration Decree, NRCD 143 of 1973 with a membership of fifty (50) Technologists awaiting a council in place to regulate their practice.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It is surprising that the request for the establishment of the Board to regulate and control the practice has still not been met.\u00a0None of the Governments both Military and Civilian had found it prudent to accede to the request and the request is being pursued till today.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Having the NDC captures it in their current manifesto demands applause which the professional has offered in a release by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) Dr. Dennis Adu-Gyasi.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Read in detail the presser from GAMLS applauding the political party and the flagbearer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>GAMLS APPLAUDS THE NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS (NDC) PARTY ON MANIFESTO PROMISE TO SET UP A MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENCE COUNCIL<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The sole professional body for the practice of Medical Laboratory Science in Ghana, the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists (GAMLS), \u00a0has welcomed the National Democratic Congress (NDC)\u2019s Manifesto promise to establish a Medical Laboratory Science Council in Ghana, when it comes to power.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">GAMLS wishes to express its gratitude to the major opposition party for recognizing the need for the establishment of a Medical Laboratory Science Council (MLSC) to regulate the practice of the profession in Ghana- a proposal that has been on the table since 1973.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Professional Association believes, having the Council in place is the only way to ensure that Ghanaians benefit most from the services that Medical Laboratory Science Professionals provide in the country\u2019s healthcare delivery system.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">An MLSC will offer the required independence, as suggested and presented in the Scheme of service developed for Health laboratory services by the Head of Civil Service as far back as 1989 when Dr. (Mrs.) Mary Grant was the Deputy Secretary for Health under the PNDC (OHCS HLS\/Est.-48). This initiative is also in sync with international best practice.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The need for a Council to govern the practice and operations of the sector has been a source of agitation among medical laboratory scientists and for which GAMLS has embarked on industrial actions in recent times.
