This is one-tenth of every income you earn. I have met personally Christians who have done more than the tenth and just like me, it is better to let God cheat you than you being exact and cheating God.

He will always leave a remnant of testimony for descendants yet unborn to come and see His manifold blessings. Amidst the debate of whether to pay or not, Mrs. Vicentia Mensah Adrakpanya shares her experience on tithing. I will present just a few in this write-up.

First and foremost, when she first came to the Church of Pentecost by marriage and heard of tithing, she immediately gave a tithe the very moment she was baptized. On her way back home from the place they went to baptized her, she saw an amount of money by the road and took it upon pondering several times. “Who might have dropped this money here? A place that is seldomly used by pedestrians.” Though the Bible mentioned Jesus Christ asking His disciple to open the mouth of a fish and took a gold coin to pay tax, in my mind, many may say this is not convincing of instantly receiving the benefits of tithing.

On the second experience of receiving instantly the reward from tithing, Maa Vicentia collected money from the bank and kept it in the house for about a month before use. She had paid her tithe on the said amount. On the day they decided to use the money, the bundle was short by a ten cedis note. This was going to affect the purpose for which they had saved the money. She immediately talked to God that, she cannot lose her money because she had paid tithe on it. She took the bundle untouched and went straight to the bank to inquire. When she was entering, she saw the manager and went to him. She complained of her problem and the manager looked at her in awe. Everything virtually stood still and the entire system was activated to look for the money around the period she had gone to the bank for the bundle of cash. To their surprise, they found out that on the said day she had withdrawn the money, the back during closing the branch found an extra ten cedis and kept it aside if perchance the owner may come back for it. It was good she listened to the voice of the Holy Spirit and went to get her money.

Mas Vicentia and the husband had gone for an all-night prayer meeting while at Nsawam. Before she went ensured every door was properly locked and their electronic gadgets at that time were covered with cloths. At the dawn of the next day from the all-night service, they found their room was broken into. An intruder had taken their television and sound system (called Tape at that time). She asked God why He had allowed the cankerworm to eat of their property? She heard of a clear voice to go and look for it. They initially went to the Nsawam police station to lodge a complaint. Surprisingly, the officer-in-charge asked them to go and come when daybreak.

The voice of the Holy Spirit was so loud and clear to her not to go home but go to the Nsawam Police barrier at that time to look for the stolen items. Her husband could not understand the issue. She headed straight to the bus terminal to be able to go to the location the Holy Spirit had told her to go and search for the electronic items. Usually, the vehicles at the bus terminals load in turns till they are filled with passengers before moving. When the vehicle she met loading was full, she felt the uneasiness to get off that bus. She had to shout on top of her voice before the driver and passengers dropped her off that bus. When she got down, the voice of the Holy Spirit kept telling her to go back and pick the next bus that was loading. She had to share the front seats with a military man. Apparently, the second vehicle he joined appeared stronger than the one she had initially met. While in the car, a man was coming to that same car with some items on his head and a polythene bag in his hand. The Holy Spirit told her that is the thief and the items are hers. She immediately told the military man that, the man coming is a thief whole stole her items. They decided to allow the man to check in his luggage and pay to enable them to hold him for ownership. Upon more deliberations as to whether Maa Vicentia was not acting strange because she had lost her electronic items, they confronted the thief, and behold, he was carrying the television and the “tape”. He was taken to the police station and the necessary processes went on. This thrilled many to seek the God of Maa Vicentia and many were won to God. They saw that the Holy Spirit is also a “thief catcher”. All these happened within 1 hour after they saw their room had been broken into. From the conductors at the bus terminal, that man always comes to join the early morning buses with similar luggage and they never suspected he was stealing.

On why her faith does not wax cold with tithing, she said that she became recalcitrant at a point and did not pay tithes. The financial difficulty she went through was unbearable. She was reminded of what she had stopped doing and was advised to go back to paying her tithes. She pleaded for forgiveness and asked God to write off her debt since she could not pay with interest. In that month, she gave all her monthly earned salary a tithe without taking a penny. She paid the tithes on Sunday without knowing how she was going to survive the month. On Monday at the workplace, many officers she worked for showed her financial appreciation that had never happened before. She was a prisons officer, and at no point in her service did anyone give her money to show appreciation. But for the first time in her life, she went home that Monday with a total amount that was twice her salary. She had reaped what she sowed the previous day as a tithe. This was enough confirmation for her to fear God when it comes to tithing.

It is encouraging to know that God is interested in the faithful who pays tithe and He honours His word in the life of such individuals.
