The National Cathedral of Ghana ( NCG) Secretariat say the project is a “National Monument”, and this makes it a public project and not a private one.<\/p>\n

A statement from the Secretariat signed by the Executive Director, of the NCG, Dr. Opoku-Mensah noted; “for the avoidance of doubt, the National Cathedral of Ghana – is a state-owned company limited by guarantee, and was incorporated under the companies Act 1963 (Act 179), on July 18, 2019”.<\/p>\n

The statement follows recent agitations from the public on the decision by the Finance Minister releasing $25 million towards the construction of the Cathedral which was a personal pledge by President Nana Akuffo Addo.<\/p>\n

In responding to the release of that amount, the statement outlined all the payments made by the Finance ministry and how it has been spent so far.<\/p>\n

“… the seed money promised by the state was concluded and the first batch of the seed money, the cedis equivalent of $25m representing 10% of the total cost of the project at the time, was released November 25, 2020”. Part of the statement reads.<\/p>\n
