In fact, the protocol demands that the flight attendants select people who understand the implications of being on the seats near the door and emergency exits. You are allowed as a passenger to turn the latch to open the door upon instructions. One cannot choose to open unless instruction has been given ultimately by the pilot.<\/p>\n
In the middle of a flight when most of the passengers were asleep and the flight attendants were less busy in the dimmed light in the cabin, the OPEN sign with the directional indication on the door caught my attention. With all the boldness one can gather, not even a lunatic or a somnambulist would want to obey such a thought.<\/p>\n
A report has been published of two pilots who were believed to have fallen asleep and missed their landing during a flight from Sudan to Ethiopia.\u00a0<\/i>It was said that they might have fallen asleep when the aircraft was in autopilot mode. Imagine if they had taken a drastic decision to land even while they were off.<\/p>\n
If the crew of an aircraft with 150 seats could suffer such an episode, it will be easier for someone to temper with the aircraft doors when no attention is on them.<\/p>\n
The safety in our aircraft needs to be heightened to avvert such disaster occuring in the future.<\/p>\n
Scientifically, “one cannot open the door of an aircraft when it is in the air because the aircraft is pressurised, and the cabin pressure is higher than the outside air pressure”. \u201cThe difference can be as much as 55158.1 Newtons per square meter ( or 5500 kg applied to one square meter). Basically, the door is sealed against the aircraft frame.\u201d and no individual can have the strength to open such a door. But never say never without caution.<\/p>\n
