<\/p>\nTo borrow the words of King David, “I have lived on the face of Ghana for some years now, yet I have never seen terrorism in the Country”. Notwithstanding, same could not be said of the many disasters that have befallen the country with “peaceful nation” as its\u00a0accolade.<\/p>\n
Just limiting myself in this paragraph to gas explosions, I have no\u00a0doubt the statistics counted of only gas explosions occurred from 2015 till date just in the capital city alone.<\/p>\n

When I was growing up, and in Wenchi, one of the persons I had considered an uncle experienced an explosion when he was welding a petrol tank at his workshop. That explosion left his arm deformed till this day I am writing this piece. I thought I was never going to forget that mammoth and thundering sound from that explosion till what happened in the year 2004\/2005.<\/p>\n
It was one early evening when I heard a blast that almost quaked the building I was in around the Santasi round-about in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, Ghana. What I thought was very close by and started running out of the house for my dear life came from an explosion of a gas tank about 2 kilometers away. A tank at the gas filling station, a location now housing the Kumasi City Mall, exploded killing and severely injuring some people. The degrees of burns reported to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital where I had my internship were enough to erase whatever memories I had of the tank explosion my “uncle” experience during welding as I mentioned earlier.<\/p>\n
A countless number of disasters across the length\u00a0and breadth of this nation\u00a0have befallen us. Fresh on the mind are (not in any particular order<\/em>); I was never involved in any of the disaster described but the torture I got from those that happened close to my home and family was as equal to being a role player.<\/p>\n The recent disaster which happened last night at the atomic junction, a suburb of Accra, was terrifying from the videos and pictures seen so far. An unconfirmed released from the government’s communication team outs the death tow in less than 24hrs to 7 with several injured.<\/p>\n Some countries have been known for the increased rate of terrorism. Such scare people from even engaging in most public gatherings. In those countries, beep from any machine, even a life support will have to be cross-checked to be sure it will not detonate. That’s the level at which people might live in fear with unstable palpitations.<\/p>\n I have asked myself of the question of whether the countries with frequent reports of disasters and those with several reportages of terrorism can be placed on equal pegging? Are the citizens in all those countries at equal risks? In which of the two will the safety of individuals be secured? I will not bother to talk about those that might be at a level where boths disasters and terrorism reign supreme.<\/p>\n I would want to start “my madness” from home. It is my wish that our leaders will let all laws the people’s general assembly have made and accepted to be ruled by respected to the letter. The giving into the quest of the “have-somes” and the influential in society have crumbled the system, making our laws inferior to some individuals and not useful.<\/p>\n Are the lives of Ghanaians worth less than the individuals who we have allowed to have their ways even when their deeds flout the laws? Many of our disasters are avoidable and we can do better as a nation.<\/p>\n Let us not always be interested in saying “NEVER AGAIN” but rather we should act now.<\/p>\n
\n1. the June 3 disaster where over 100 souls were lost from an explosion that occurred at a fuel filling station in the heart of the capital city.
\n2. the passing away of about 60 citizens of Ghana (MetroMass Accident in Kintampo<\/a>) in a tragic accident that in my view could have been avoided. I remember, I was far away from home when I saw the headlines and could not concentrate till I heard from my family. Similarly,
\n3. the Kintampo waterfall disaster which claimed about 20 lives of students (Kintampo waterfalls disaster<\/a>). This again could have been avoided if most of the safety signals had been respected. I was never involved in any of the disaster described but the torture I got from those that happened close to my home and family was as equal to being a role player.<\/p>\n
