I accompanied my mum to one of the busy markets in Ghana to help her buy some items for a family business. Dressed in my usual apparel with my backpack standing at a corner within the market as we wait for the traders to unpack their produce, I saw men pushing trucks and wheelbarrows with goods.<\/p>\n
It appears as an easy job anytime you see them pass by till you investigate the details of the sweat flowing under their sleeves. Pushing the load they carried on the bumpy paths as they meander through the market activates in mind if such is part of the curse in the garden.<\/p>\n
Is it about hard work that produces sweat that can deliver a living to man? This question reminiscing in my mind unveiled several others which I think I should share.<\/p>\n
Why are those engaged in such manual labour are the least paid? A full load of wheelbarrow over a kilometer might not cause more than GHc 2.00 (~$0.5). Even those who carry such similar heavy loads on their heads might be lucky to receive the same amount.<\/p>\n
I have engaged some workers to put up a fence wall on a land we are developing. The labourers and their masters don’t take more than Ghc 40.0 (~$10.0) each after a day’s work (8am to 3pm). The work includes digging trenches, packing blocks, mixing mortar, fetching gravels, laying the blocks and many others involved in the processes of raising a building.<\/p>\n
These manual labours described would at all times be rated as hard work over whatever kind of “white colour” job. But on the contrary, the pay system across the globe hardly recognizes such manual works to even receive equal pay. They are the least paid. Are some cursed more than others?<\/p>\n
As you think of these to get me answers, I have come to believe that “the blessings of the Lord makes rich and add no sorrow”. I will trust in Him for His adequacy.<\/p>\n
