I was watching a documentary about “The National Ambulance Service” on JoyNews TV channel and heard that the ambulance service at the national seat has only seven (7) telephones used to receive all the emergency calls and direct the nearest service center to pick the clients in crisis. I couldn’t believe it till the head of the center confirmed the deplorable state of the place in terms of resources.
\nWhat are we doing to ourselves as a nation? At least one could have been provided and dedicated to each of the ten regions of Ghana. I attended a workshop in Senegal, Dakar and was told hospitals might reject casualties that are brought in public transport systems. If anything happens, an ambulance should be called immediately to the scene than to “fetch” the victims using taxi and other means of transportation. I wonder how Ghana could enforce such law, with only seven phones, if even the law exists.
\nApart from the phones, the cost of hiring the services of the ambulances is never affordable to the ordinary Ghanaian. One would have to settle upfront the cost of service before the vehicle moves to transport the victim. I have seen many allowed to die because they could not afford the charges of the ambulance service unit.
\nIt is important we make consented efforts to fix our emergency systems in the country to the benefit of us all. What has it got to do that? We should not allow the greed of certain individuals to overshadow the poor Ghanaian who could not afford private or privileged services.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
