After the delivery of the twins by his wife, they could not afford to pay their bills. It was cash and carry as they described. The best way to defray the cost was to make the husband weed as a labourer to pay off the debt they owed the hospital.
It took almost a week of manual labour to work to compensate for the hospital bills. All this the time the husband was weeding, the wife and kids were held “hostage” in the hospital in the ward.
Working your way to liberty is the commonest phrase one could use.
What would you have done? Was the hospital right in asking the husband to render such service to pay their debt?
