For more than one month now, Kintampo North is not receiving signals from any of the television channels on the digital platform in Ghana. Upon inquiries, it was realized that the equipment distributing the television channels within Kintampo has developed a fault and has been taken to Accra for repairs.
It was realized that the distribution of the digital channels in Ghana and in Kintampo North was not under the care of Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) but rather their premises is only used for the installation. That the digital channel platform was in the contract managed and maintained by a company called K-NET who does not have a staff in the area but only works on the items when it breaks down.
It is difficult to believe that such a platform could be built without a routine maintenance schedule. Why should the equipment be only attended to when it breaks down? What kind of service do they intend to offer? Why can the equipment not be under the management of the very people who are constantly available to monitor and resolve issues to avoid a break in transmission?
The people in Kintampo North are being deprived of the benefits of the digital television platform and rather call on the Ministry of Communication, Ghana to take a second look at the management of the digital platform especially what exists in the specified area.
