On UTV late night news on 12th July 2018, a taxi driver was seen donating a bed to the accident and emergency unit of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Accra, Ghana.
The nation’s health system has in recent times been plagued with a “no bed” syndrome which has received a lot of public outcry. The situation got a lot of public attention when a 70 year old man died after been refused admission in 7 different hospitals because of no beds.
Many patients need to buy their own seats to receive medical attention at the emergency centre.
Among the many benevolent people who are contributing to resource the hospital, was a taxi driver who upon hearing the news was burdened.
His action challenges me a lot as a public service worker.
What can we do as individuals to improve our health systems?
