In Matthew 16:18, Jesus said “And I tell you that you are Peter and on this rock I will build my church.
The church according to Jesus will be the most powerful institution on earth and the gates of hades will not be able to stand against it.
Its foundation is on the rock Jesus Christ and not Peter as some consider (1 Corinthians 3:11).
Let’s look at the wise and the foolish builders according to Matthew 7:24-29. The wise man built his house on the rock and the other on sand. When the rains came, the house on the rock stood, while the one on sand fell.
This means that if we try to use any other thing as our foundation in life other than Jesus Christ, the rock we would fail (John 15:4-5).
WHY ARE CHILDREN PART
Let’s read Act 2:39
What we just read was” for the promise is unto you and to your children”.
This story is about the day of Pentecost when the disciples were baptized by the Holy Spirit after that peter got up to address the crowd about Jesus, Then the crowd asked Peter what they should do and peter ask them to repent and be baptized and receive the Holy Spirit and that the promise is for them and their children. So if Christ has promise the church of Pentecost that he will build his church then children are part.
Let’s read Luke 17:15-17
Here Jesus was preaching to the crowd as he used to do and parents wanted to send their children to him and the disciples were stopping them but Jesus called the children to come to him the Bible says he made the kids to sit on his laps and blessed them and he said the kingdom of heaven belongs to us (Children). Jesus loves us because he sees that the future of the church is us.
WHAT ARE THE ROLES WE CHILDREN CAN PLAY TO BUILD THE CHURCH
Let’s read Ephesians 6:1-3
- Children are supposed to obey their parents in the Lord. When our parents send us we must go. We must learn to follow instructions. If our parents say something is not good for us and we must not do it, then we should not. If our parents ask us to learn we must learn. And not only our parents anyone who is older than us and is Christian who gives us instructions if only is in line with God’s word we must do it. Because Adults have been kids before and they know best but we have not been Adults before so they can direct us. Amen.
- We must read our Bible and pray all the time so that we can know God’s will and ways and live as such.
- We must come to church, the more we come to church the more we can learn about the church dos and don’ts so that we can take over from the elders. Coming to church also helps us to keep our faith strong and also learn more about our church.
WHAT ARE ROLES OF PARENTS IN INVOLVING CHILDREN IN BUILDING THE CHURCH.
- To teach us (children) the right part. So dear parents when you are coming to church for Holy Ghost baptisim please bring us. Please do a devotion with us in the house and teach us about the word of God. When we read Luke 17:15-17 we realize that it was the parents who were taking their children to Jesus. Let’s read Ephesians 6:4
It says it all train us in the way of the lord.
Just as proverbs state that train the children in the way of the lord so that when we grow we will not depart from it. In building the church, now there are lots of things the church is teaching the members and children must also know for example the church is now encouraging us to keep our environment clean and parent needs to teach the children so that we can also learn how to protect our environment. Also, teach us about church doctrines polices and songs.
- Parents should pray for us.
THE BENEFITS OF CHILDREN BEING PART OF BUILDING THE CHURCH
- We the children are the future so if we are involved in building the church, we can take over in future.
- If we the children are involved in building the church. The Church’s policies, doctrines and songs cannot easily be altered.
- It will help us to stay on track will God always, hereby not losing our salvation.
To conclude I will tell a short story.
On Thursday a mother read something from the church theme. “I will build my church” then her 4-year-old daughter asked her. Mum, are you going to build a church? But the church is already built ooo, the 4-year-old girl went on to say, all you need is to paint it so it will look nice. I knew she didn’t understand. To her, the church is this building and didn’t know why a new one must be built. That is why we need to involve the children so that they too can understand and help to build the church in future. Let’s not be like the five foolish virgins who did not plan for the future but like the five wise virgins who made plans for the future such that when the groom came they had extra oil, parents, elders please we the children are your extra oil do prepare us to take over to build the church well in future.
God bless you all
Amen.
