The staff of Metro Mass Transit are said to be on “strike” since their salaries for the past two months have not been paid.  The leadership of the staff are asking the government to come to their aid to restore hope to the vision started to ease travelling  in the country.

The question I ask is what account for such problem rearing its ugly head in government institutions ? Is it a case of mismanagement? Are passengers paying the right fares? Is maintenance culture inculcated in the plan of sustainability ? Why can’t the institution replace its vehicles?

It is just one of the two public bus systems Ghana has and all efforts must be made to get them back into operation.

Onething we should know is that, if MMT collapses, other private owners will grab the opportunity to ply the route but charge exhorbitant charges. In the news, one of private bus drivers was heard praising God because it is an opened door for them.

We need to sit up and let government institutions thrive when set up to achieve their purpose.
