25th May, marked as the day for the unity of nations in Africa, happens to be a special day in my life. The womb that carried me for nine months and gave birth to me was born on this special Africa Union’s Day. The father I have legally acquired by virtue of my luck to marry my wife was also born on this special day. Another selfless mother who may feel my pain more than myself that I got the opportunity to know ever since I started my education at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) was also born on 25th May. Let me not talk about the birthday of Sedem, the first grandson son of my mother else my mouth will water.

As fate may have it, on this special day for Africans, the world was triggered to know that the lives of black people also matter. An unprofessional act of some security agents in the United States of America (USA) caused the death of George Floyd specifically in Minneapolis. This sparked an outraged and several protests happened across the USA and beyond.

On June 6, an estimated half a million people joined protests in 550 places across the country. Polls estimate between 15 million and 26 million people participated in the United States, making these protests potentially the largest movement in terms of participation in U.S. history with the protests spreading to over 2,000 cities and towns in all 50 states.

Currently, the USA is known to have been one of the countries worse hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. Could the rise in cases be an influence from the several protests that happened after the tragic death of the “propositus” of “Black live matters”?

I have been looking for analysis that takes into consideration the impact of the massive protests that occurred during the period in question.

A cursory look at the data across some states suggests that the cases identified now were infected during the protests.

We definitely do not need to overlook the impact of the protests that waved across the USA as far as COVID-19 is ravaging the States.
