The 2020 Presidential Election in the United States of America (USA) has been touted as one of the toughest to call even almost a day after voting ended. It could be as a result of the mail voting approach adopted by some states or because stakes are high and the candidates are not giving in to chance.
For almost a day, the figures from the vote counts appear stagnant especially reports on the electoral college system.
In the anxiety that pertains, it is a good thing to look at history to know the gaps that have ever existed between winners of previous elections and the first-runner-ups.
Looking at the data displayed on wikipedia from 1792 to the elections of 2016 which brought the incumbent president (President Donald Trump) to power, it was interesting to note that the election of 1876 had a difference of 1 vote between the winner and the runner up. Recently in 2000, President George W. Bush won the presidency with 5 votes over his opponent.
It is therefore not surprising people are being cautious to call the 2020 US Elections. In all, the decision of the people must be upheld.
