The World Health Organization (WHO) COVID-19 dashboard revealed that on 26th January 2021, Ghana recorded about 1300 daily cases of COVID-19. This is amidst several discussions by stakeholders for government to consider restrictions of social activities or movement in some part of Ghana if not all.
COVID-19 cases started soaring in Ghana from the 08th of January and all stakeholders including the populace have expressed worry over the increasing numbers and records of an average of 600 cases daily. This has warranted some of the stakeholders suggesting a possible lockdown in Ghana. At 600 cases daily, was comparable to observations made in July and August 2020. However, the situation appeared murkier when a daily figure of 1300 was recorded. This is double what had been previously recorded.
The picture of COVID-19 cases in Ghana does not appear dire compared to what is happening in other African countries some of which are neighbours.
Ghana needs to assess the situation and quickly make a decision to lock down the country and restrict some social activities should things continue as it is happening.
