The National Cathedral of Ghana ( NCG) Secretariat say the project is a “National Monument”, and this makes it a public project and not a private one.
A statement from the Secretariat signed by the Executive Director, of the NCG, Dr. Opoku-Mensah noted; “for the avoidance of doubt, the National Cathedral of Ghana – is a state-owned company limited by guarantee, and was incorporated under the companies Act 1963 (Act 179), on July 18, 2019”.
The statement follows recent agitations from the public on the decision by the Finance Minister releasing $25 million towards the construction of the Cathedral which was a personal pledge by President Nana Akuffo Addo.

In responding to the release of that amount, the statement outlined all the payments made by the Finance ministry and how it has been spent so far.
“… the seed money promised by the state was concluded and the first batch of the seed money, the cedis equivalent of $25m representing 10% of the total cost of the project at the time, was released November 25, 2020”. Part of the statement reads.
