The Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO), is cautioning the Ghanaian public on licking on fraudulent links that ask bank customers to link their Ghana Identification Cards to their accounts.

In a statement dated June 30, 2022;  signed by the Head of Public Affairs, Faustina Lartey, says some fraudters are taking advantage of directives from banking institutions to get access to sensitive information from unsuspecting customers.

The directive to link the Ghana Card to bank accounts, is part of requirements from the Bank of Ghana to the banks as a measure to curb fraudulent banking activities.

The Ghana Identification Card, will be the only card accepted by the bank during any transaction, starting July 1, 2022. Hence customer are to provide the necessary details to enable an update of their information with the banks.

But some fraudters have created fraudulent links and are asking customers of banks, to provide information such as their bank accounts, Mobile App Pins and One Time Password (OTP).

EOCO, is therefore asking the public to do the following:

1: Not to click on any link, unless they confirm with their banks.

2: Note that the bank will never ask for your Mobile App Pin or OTP.

3: To report any suspicious SMS or call to the bank, for immediate action.
