From experience, one needs to book a time to visit authority at the seat of government in Ghana. The letter will go and you await a scheduled time as fixed by the Presidency. You will be fortunate if your case is seen to be given urgent attention, then a call could be placed to receive you. After this schedule, one reports at the general reception and a confirmation of your coming is made before you are admitted. When it is time for you to be called, you have to go through stringent security checks and screening. Nothing of yours including even a pen is allowed beyond the security and scanning checkpoint. One virtually walks naked apart from your attire. Even after these checks, one could wait in a queue for hours before you will be called to see the official attending to you.

The story of Esther, Mordecai, Haman, and the King in the Bible describes how difficult it is for one to be called to the presence of people of authority when they have not been summoned or given the opportunity. One therefore could anticipate how difficult it would have been to be ushered to the presence of God Almighty had it not been for the advocate of the salvation He made available.

Social media has now eliminated several protocols in the way and manner intents of the populace get to the people in authority. For instance in Ghana, almost all government officials including the President and leaders of all the political parties have their social handles with regular updates allowing followers to comment. One will not be far from right to say that this has become a global phenomenon. The President of the United States of America, President Donald Trump, is known to be the person on the face of the globe now with the most tweets on Twitter.

In the story of “The Three Devils”, a man thought he was cursed not to prosper and was in search of his liberty. He was fortunate to know that he was the cause of his own woes. The key to his prosperity was in his own hands and commitment. It required a decision to change and going through the processes to change.

One cannot tell how these leaders review comments on their pages and whether the comments from followers inform certain actions. But wisdom must tell that, these avenues have broken several protocols one would have to go through to enter into the presence of authority and voice out a grievance.

Recently, one of the popular musicians in Ghana did a tweet to the President of Ghana about his birthday and got an invitation to the seat of government to celebrate his day. Reports of how people got the attention of leaders in authority and in government through social media are available for all to see.

It is therefore mind-boggling when people have the opportunity to make their thoughts known, they choose to insult, complain, or chastise.  One does not know when his/her comment as a follower of a leader would catch attention and set the leader into action to command the interest so desired. So why not also present what you will say should you go through the protocols and be given an audience at the seat of government?

A glean of some comments on a post of the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo, caught the attention and it should be the prayer of all that they receive the audience and attention of the first gentleman of Ghana.

Two followers gave the following comments as below on a campaign message;

“It’s been over 5yrs now and still Trained vets after school are compelled to do #Nationalservice for 4 yrs, instead of 2 yrs housemanship as required. It’s very serious for a nation which is pushing for rearing for food & job to be neglecting it’s vets. #Housemanship4VETS”
“Mr President thank you for your good works but please ensure the GHS and ministry of health do something to reduce the costs of kidney disease treatment especially dialysis and kidney transplant surgeries. People are dying because they can’t afford treatment. Thanks 🙏”
For a President seeking to be elected and seeing these comments might act and the benefit might be enormous to all. Juxtapose these to insults, curses, and damnations. As your heart dictates and directs how you will act should you be the recipient of these messages, so must everyone think anytime the opportunity presents itself. No one knows when his/her comment will set something in motion to benefit all Ghanaians, so when speaking to catch the attention of those in authority, be decorous.
Shalom!
